145. Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture the up-to-date position in respect of the level of EC aid being paid on casein; if he has failed to make the necessary case for realignment of the level of aid paid; and his views on the difficulty for casein manufacturer because of the low level of refund.

Minister for Agriculture (Mr. Deasy): Following strong pressure on my part, the level of EC aid for casein production has been increased from £2,490 to £2,710 per tonne with effect from 2 June. So far this year casein production has been well up to last year's record level.
