Dáil Éireann - Volume 363 - 12 February, 1986

Written Answers. - UCD Athletic Track.

115. Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Education if she will make moneys available for resurfacing the athletic track at UCD, Belfield, in view of its present poor condition and the fact that it is a major amenity on Dublin south side and an international venue.

Minister for Education (Mrs. Hussey): University College, Dublin, is statutorily required to make any request for State funds through the Higher Education Authority. I understand that the authority has not received a request from UCD for moneys to be made available for resurfacing the athletic track at the college. Any such request would have to be considered in the context of the overall allocation to UCD for 1986 bearing in mind that in the absence of a formal request from the college authorities a specific provision was not made in the 1986 Capital Programme of expenditure for this purpose.
