Written Answers. - Illegal Importation of Lamb.

19. Mr. Noonan (Limerick West) asked the Minister for Agriculture if his attention has been drawn to a press statement with regard to the smuggling of New Zealand lamb into the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Agriculture (Mr. Deasy): I am aware of recent reports of New Zealand lamb being illegally imported into this country. Officers of customs and excise are currently investigating these allegations to ensure that Ireland's sensitive zone status of zero lamb imports is not being breached.
