Written Answers. - Social Employment Scheme.

426. Mr. O'Kennedy asked the Minister for Labour the number employed in the social employment scheme in 1985; and the anticipated number in 1986.

Minister for Labour (Mr. Quinn): At the end of December 1985 there were 5,501 persons employed in 1,417 projects under the social employment scheme. It is expected that in 1986 the scheme will have provided employment for the target [245] figure of 10,000 participants as set out in Building on Reality.

427. Dr. McCarthy asked the Minister for Labour the number of persons at present employed in the social employment scheme; and the breakdown of this figure on a county basis.

Minister for Labour (Mr. Quinn): As [246] statistics relating to the social employment scheme are compiled on the basis of National Manpower Service regions, details on a county basis are not available at present. Computerising the administration of the scheme will allow provision of this information in the future.
