372. Mr. J. Leonard asked the Minister for Agriculture if his attention has been drawn to a report in the media (details supplied) regarding the distribution of EC grant-aid; and if he is satisfied with the percentage the less-favoured areas are receiving.

Minister for Agriculture (Mr. Deasy): The conclusion drawn in the report was in fact that some 60 per cent of EC grant-aided expenditure was incurred in the 11 less favoured countries. This is the pattern I would have expected having regard to the number of schemes operating specifically in the disadvantaged areas.
