Dáil Éireann - Volume 363 - 22 January, 1986 Written Answers. - Ground Limestone. Mr. J. Leonard Mr. J. Leonard 338. Mr. J. Leonard asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is satisfied with (a) the quality of imported ground limestone; and (b) the system of monitoring the quality. Minister for Agriculture (Mr. Deasy) Austin Deasy Minister for Agriculture (Mr. Deasy): Standards for ground limestone for sale here are different, in certain respects, from those obtaining in Northern Ireland. Over the years, some farmers in the Border areas have purchased lime from Northern Ireland which does not meet our quality standards. Continuous efforts are made to discourage farmers from buying an inferior product through advertisements in local newspapers, through ACOT advice, and through other preventive measures including prosecution. At the same time officers of my Department carry out frequent checks to monitor the quality of the limestone being supplied to farmers. Dáil Éireann 363 Written Answers. Ground Limestone.
