Dáil Éireann - Volume 361 - 23 October, 1985 Written Answers. - National Flag. Mr. H. Byrne Mr. H. Byrne 258 [258] 395. Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if she agrees that our national flag, the Tricolour, should be flown in every school under her jurisdiction in the country; and if she will instruct the manager and principal of each school to comply with this suggestion. Minister for Education (Mrs. Hussey) Gemma Hussey Minister for Education (Mrs. Hussey): There is a recognised protocol in the correct display of the national flag. While it might be considered desirable to have the flag displayed in schools and whilst it is open to individual school authorities to do so in the appropriate manner I do not think this should be imposed by official direction.
