Written Answers. - Purchase of County Kerry Land.

113. Mr. J. O'Leary asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the cause of the long delay in finalising the purchase of land at Lettermoniel, Tahilla PO, Killarney, County Kerry, for a person (details supplied) in County Kerry in view of the fact that this land is on offer to the Forestry Division for the past three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Fisheries and Forestry (Mr. O'Toole): My Department have not entered into negotiations with the person mentioned for the purchase of the land offered to it because access thereto is not adequate for forestry development. It would be necessary to acquire some adjoining land to provide suitable access and negotiations to that end are proceeding at present. If these negotiations are successful the Department will then be in a position to consider negotiating for [107] the purchase of the land referred to in the question.
