129. Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in [1691] granting a disabled person's maintenance allowance to a person (details supplied) in County Cork as the application was lodged four months ago; and if he is aware of the hardship she is undergoing due to the delay in payment.

Minister for Health (Mr. B. Desmond): The delay was due to the shortage of medical personnel in the area. A medical examination of the applicant has now been carried out and a decision on the application will be made very shortly. If and when the application is approved payment of the allowance will be made retrospective to the data of the application.
