Dáil Éireann - Volume 359 - 25 June, 1985 Written Answers. - Tax Liability. Mr. F. Fahey Mr. F. Fahey 97. Mr. F. Fahey asked the Minister for Finance the reason a person (details supplied) in County Galway is paying £42 in tax out of an income of £121. Minister for Finance (Mr. Dukes) Alan Dukes 1678 Minister for Finance (Mr. Dukes): I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners [1678] that, on the basis of the information available to the inspector of taxes, the taxpayer's total income for the current year is not likely to exceed the appropriate age exemption threshold of £7,000. Accordingly, he is not liable to income tax for 1985-86. An amended certificate granting tax exemption for that year will be issued to him as soon as possible. When this certificate is put into operation by the former employer, the tax which has been deducted from his retirement pension since 6 April last will be refunded to the taxpayer.
