Written Answers. - New House Grant.
Mr. Coogan Mr. Coogan
114. Mr. Coogan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider extending the new £5,000 house grant for local authority tenants of three years standing to cover Army personnel living in Army accommodation, many of whom would be on local authority housing lists.
Minister for the Environment (Mr. Kavanagh) Liam Kavanagh
Minister for the Environment (Mr. Kavanagh): It is not proposed to extend the £5,000 grant scheme as proposed since the surrender of Army accommodation would fail to meet the essential objective of the scheme which is to make dwellings available to local authorities for reletting by them to persons on their housing lists.
