Written Answers. - School Attendance Acts.

719. Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Justice the number of prosecutions under the School Attendance Acts in each of the years since 1980.

Minister for Justice (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East): Details regarding the numbers of prosecutions taken by the Garda under the School Attendance Acts are published in the Annual Reports on Crime of the Commissioner, Garda Síochána, copies of which are available in [1578] the Oireachtas Library. The most recent report is in respect of the year 1983.

The enforcement of the School Attendance Acts in the county boroughs of Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Waterford and the borough of Dun Laoghaire is a matter for the school attendance committees for those boroughs. The Garda have no statistics for prosecutions brought by those committees.
