[1516] 599. Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Finance the yield of income tax from the PAYE sector for each of the years 1982, 1983 and 1984.

Minister for Finance (Mr. Dukes): The estimated net receipt of income tax collected through the PAYE mechanism in 1982, 1983 and 1984 was as follows:

These figures cover more than income tax on ordinary wages and salaries. They include tax paid by directors of close companies who are akin to the self-employed as well as tax on “other income” of employees such as rent and other investment income.
