498. Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment if he approves of the proposal to construct a new Corrib Bridge at Kilbeg-Knockferry, County Galway; and if he will provide the necessary finance to Galway County Council to allow planning for this bridge to proceed.

Minister for the Environment (Mr. Kavanagh): The construction of a new bridge and approaches over the River Corrib at Galway city at an estimated cost of £10.5 million at 1984 prices, is at present under way. In view of the commitment of funds for that project, the expenditure of moneys of the order necessary to construct another bridge at Knockferry-Kilbeg would not be warranted.
