Mr. Gregory-Independent asked the Minister for Justice if he will investigate the allegations made by a prisoner (details attached) that prisoners' mail in Mountjoy prison is not being properly delivered resulting in a sit-down protest by prisoners on 5 June last; the outcome of his investigation; and the measures he will take to prevent any recurrence. Minister for Justice (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East) Michael Noonan 1086 Minister for Justice (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East): My Department [1086] announced on 7 June that an investigation into irregularities in dealing with letters to and from prisoners in Mountjoy prison began on that date and that procedural changes had been made by the authorities of the prison in order to minimise the possibility of a recurrence.
