Written Answers. - Tax-Free Allowance.

481. Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Finance if he will correct a tax error for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

Minister for Finance (Mr. Dukes): I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the point at issue in this case is the transfer of the husband's tax-free allowances for the current year to his wife for use in connection with her employment income.

This request has now been dealt with and two amended certificates of tax-free allowances will be issued shortly to the wife. The first certificate will effect the transfer of tax-free allowances requested. The second certificate in addition to taking account of such transfer, will also provide appropriate relief in respect of mortgage interest payable.
