Dr. Woods asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the plans he has to deal with the dramatic increase in crime in the Douglas area of Cork over the past few months, particularly in housebreaking; and when he intends to provide an adequate 24-hour local Garda service. Minister for Justice (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East) Michael Noonan 760 Minister for Justice (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East): The precise arrangements for policing particular areas are a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that local officers are aware of the burglary problem in Douglas [760] and are making every effort to curb and detect this type of crime. They have informed me that apart from the service provided by the local station the area also receives attention from mobile patrols operating from Union Quay Station on a 24-hour basis. The organisation of the Garda Síochána in Cork City is under review at present with the objective of providing an improved service for all areas of the city including Douglas.
