Written Answers. - Drainage of Monaghan Blackwater.

395. Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to a statement by a number of public representatives in the Six Counties opposing the drainage of the river Blackwater; and if he will ensure that the drainage proceeds as planned.

Minister for Finance (Mr. Dukes): The statutory preliminary steps in the preparation of a drainage scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, for the Monaghan Blackwater are proceeding and I expect the scheme to be before my Department for confirmation in a few weeks. I have had no indication from the Northern Ireland authorities of any change in their plans to commence the outfall works this year.
