[606] 400. Dr. Woods asked the Minister for Justice when the ground to air surveillance patrols on the movement and activities of subversives and serious criminals was stopped or greatly reduced in 1983; and the reason.

Minister for Justice (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East): I am informed by the Commissioner that these patrols were discontinued with effect from 28 February 1983 following an analysis of their effectiveness in preventing crime and subversive activity.
