Written Answers. - Free Fuel Allowance.

327. Mr. P. Gallagher asked the Minister for Social Welfare if the income from Old IRA pensions will be excluded when assessing income for free fuel applications.

Minister for Social Welfare (Mr. B. Desmond): It is for the community welfare officer to decide in any case whether an applicant for a free fuel allowance is, having regard to his particular circumstances, unable to provide for his heating needs from his own resources. Old IRA pensions are taken into account in the same way as any other pension or other income in determining entitlement under the national free fuel scheme. It would not be appropriate that any payment would be specifically excluded from the assessment.
