151. Mr. Gene Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Labour when the last meeting of the national manpower consultative committee was held; the number of meetings held during 1982; and the items discussed at these meetings.

Minister for Labour (Mr. Quinn): The last meeting of the Manpower Consultative Committee was held on 24 June 1982. One other meeting was held in 1982 on 1 March.

The following items were discussed at [2112] these meetings: Report of the Working Party on the Problems of the Long-Term Unemployed; Background Report on Manpower Policy for the NESC Consultancy Project on Manpower Policy; Recommendations from the Committee to the Youth Employment Agency; The Register of Young Job Seekers being prepared by the National Manpower Service; Report on Attitudes to Industrial Employment; Report of the Committee for 1981; Conversion Courses in Engineering and other disciplines and Maintenance Allowance Scheme for those attending such courses; Employment Creation in the Service Sector; Appointment of a sub-committee on Industry/Commerce/Third Level Education Links; Equipment for the Manpower Education Programme; Schools/Industry Links Programme.

The ongoing work of the Manpower Consultative Committee is continuing through a number of sub-committees.
