Cosgrave asked the Minister for Health if he was aware of contracts going to foreign companies in preference to Irish ones in relation to computer facilities in the health board and if he will make a statement on the matter. Desmond): In all cases within the health sector where computer equipment is being installed an invitation to propose is extended to all possible suppliers in this country. The ultimate decision to award a contract is taken on the basis of the suitability, cost and quality of the product. In a recent selection of financial systems for health boards, a contract was given to two Irish firms who will use software packages which mainly originated abroad. Systems for patient administration and pharmacy, which are of American origin, are being installed on a pilot basis in the Southern Health Board. Dáil Éireann 346 Written Answers.
