475. Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Education the position regarding the building of a new extension to a school (details supplied) in County Galway; the reasons for the long delay in commencing building; the amount of money sanctioned; the present stage of progress in her Department; the date on which building will commence; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Education (Mrs. Hussey): My Department have asked the Commissioners of Public Works to prepare a sketch scheme for an extension to Fohenagh National School, Galway. I understand this work will commence in the near future. When the sketch scheme has been approved and an estimate of cost made available, a grant may then be sanctioned for the proposed work.

It would not be possible to state at this stage when building work may commence.
