Mr. G. Mitchell Mr. G. Mitchell
353. Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism the average car insurance cost for a 25-year-old driver with full licence in 1960, 1970 and 1980; and how this compares with the increase in the retail price index for the same period.
Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism (Mr. Cluskey) Frank Cluskey
Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism (Mr. Cluskey): The average third party motor insurance premium rate for a 25 year old driver with a full licence and qualifying for a full No Claims Bonus was £172.00 in 1980.
My Department does not have corresponding date to hand for 1960 or 1970.
I am not, therefore, in a position to make the comparison requested by the Deputy.
