339. Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Finance when tax arrears will be refunded to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

Minister for Finance (Mr. Dukes): I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that reviews of the taxpayer's liabilities for the years 1981-82 and 1982-83 have been made by the inspector of taxes. An overpayment arose and a cheque in settlement was issued on 24 October 1983.

340. Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Finance when tax arrears will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

Minister for Finance (Mr. Dukes): I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that additional information required by the inspector of taxes to process the repayment claim submitted in this case was supplied in July 1983. The taxpayer's liability for the years 1977-78 to 1982-83, inclusive, has been reviewed by the inspector and an overpayment has arisen. A cheque in settlement will be issued at an early date.

341. Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Finance when a tax refund will be issued to a person (details supplied) in [1189] County Westmeath as he submitted all the required data many months ago.

Minister for Finance (Mr. Dukes): I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer's liability for the year 1982-83 has now been reviewed by the inspector of taxes and a cheque for the refund due will be issued at an early date.

The delay in carrying out the review is regretted. It arose due to difficulty in the tax office in ascertaining particulars of the taxpayer's earnings in two separate employments during the year 1982-83.
