Written Answers. - Licensing Laws Reform.

[2108] 24. Mr. V. Brady asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider the reform of the licensing laws to enable restaurants to serve alcohol to diners.

Minister for Justice (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East): The question of possible changes in the intoxicating liquor laws to allow certain restaurants to sell a wider range of alcoholic drinks with meals has been under consideration for some time. Discussions have taken place with representatives of the various groups involved including the Irish Restaurant Owners' Association, the two main vintners organisations and the Irish Hotels Federation.

I am considering the proposals which have been made but I am not in a position at the moment to say when I may be able to seek Government decisions on the various issues that arise.
