732. Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health the number of deaths attributed to suicide which occurred in the Republic each year since 1973.

Minister for Health (Mr. B. Desmond): The number of deaths attributed to suicide and self-inflicted injury from 1973 to 1981 were: 1973, 105; 1974, 118; 1975, 148; 1976, 183; 1977, 151; 1978, 163; 1979, 169; 1980, 230; 1981, 217.

The figures for the three years 1979 to 1981 relate to the number of deaths registered during each year and may need some slight adjustment when final figures of the number of deaths which occurred each year are available.
