Mr. De Rossa asked the Minister for Transport if, in view of the fact that trade union officials have been barred from entering the construction site of Knock Airport, the Government are now withholding funding for the project. Mr. J. Mitchell Mr. J. Mitchell Mr. J. Mitchell: Day to day operations at the airport site are matters for the Connaught Airport Development Company Ltd. and their contractors. However, I understand from the company that trade union officials have not been barred from the construction site. Mr. De Rossa Mr. De Rossa Mr. De Rossa: Is the Minister aware that there were press reports and statements from trade union officials saying that they were barred from the site? In view of the fact that the Government are investing money in this venture does the Minister not think that only trade union labour should be used on the site? Mr. J. Mitchell Mr. J. Mitchell 1640 Mr. J. Mitchell: I agree with the sentiments expressed in the Deputy's question but the contracts and arrangements were made some time ago. I understand that no worker on the site was denied trade union representation where it was [1640] requested. I also understand that trade union officials have not been barred from the site.
