297. Mr. F. Fahey asked the Minister for Labour if any consideration was given to the allocation in the current year of a capital grant for the proposed new community centre at Gort, County Galway.

Minister for Labour (Mr. Kavanagh): There are no funds at the disposal of my Department in the current year to enable the allocation of a capital grant towards the proposed new community centre at Gort, County Galway.

A grant of £45,000 was recently approved to the Gort Community Council under the grant scheme for youth employment. This grant is intended to provide employment for 12 young persons and a supervisor for 40 weeks on the construction of the centre. The grant includes a sum of £5,400 for materials and £3,600 for craftwork.
