39. Mr. Blaney asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the Government's response to the resolutions forwarded by the European Parliament calling for a ban in the European Community on the use of plastic bullets.

Mr. P. Barry: I have noted the resolutions passed by the European Parliament on the question of plastic bullets and I share the widespread concern at the number of deaths and serious injuries resulting from the use of plastic bullets by the security forces in Northern Ireland referred to in these resolutions. Our great concern about their misuse in Northern Ireland and about the resultant deaths and injuries has been made known to the British Government on a number of occasions.
