Dáil Éireann - Volume 338 - 04 November, 1982 Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Building Industry Council. Mr. Kemmy Mr. Kemmy 1062 12. Mr. Kemmy asked the Minister for Labour the action he proposes to take to deal with the breakdown of industrial relations in the building industry which has resulted from the dissolution of the Joint Industrial Council for that industry; and if he intends to respond to a request from the building trade unions to hold an [1062] inquiry into the present state of industrial relations in the industry. Minister for Labour (Mr. Gene Fitzgerald) Eugene (Gene) Fitzgerald Minister for Labour (Mr. Gene Fitzgerald): I am aware of the position which exists as a result of the action of the Construction Industry Federation and the group of unions representing workers in that industry, in withdrawing from the National Joint Industrial Council. There are procedures laid down for dealing with complaints of breaches of the registered employment agreement to which both sides are parties. I would urge both sides to involve themselves in direct discussions as soon as possible aimed at resolving their differences. If agreement cannot be reached then I am sure that the services of the Labour Court would be made available, on request, to assist in the matter. Dáil Éireann 338 Ceisteanna—Questions.
