Written Answers. - Overtime Limitation.

474. Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Labour if he will outline the proposals he has in mind to limit overtime and if these limits will also include overtime by people in skilled trades where labour shortages may exist.

Minister for Labour (Mr. Gene Fitzgerald): The legislative proposals which I am examining envisages a normal limitation of overtime to an average of about ten hours per week. All employments except certain essential services will be covered.

The provisions, however, will be flexible enough to allow additional overtime working to be authorised in the kind of situation referred to by the Deputy.
