70. Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment his plans to eliminate discrimination against single people in the area of housing as indicated in his election programme; and the extra cost arising in 1982 and 1983.

Minister for the Environment (Mr. R. Burke): As I have already announced, the Government restored eligibility for the mortgage subsidy and ordinary local authority house purchase loans to single persons. The estimated cost in 1982 and 1983 is £3 million and £10 million respectively.
