Written Answers. - Sligo Refuse Dump.

254. Mr. MacSharry asked the Minister for the Environment the steps that have been taken by Sligo Corporation to provide a new refuse dump in view of the condition of the present dump at Finisklin.

[277] Minister for the Environment (Mr. P. Barry): I understand that, in view of the fact that the present dump at Finisklin is almost full, the corporation are seeking to use a further area of adjacent foreshore for refuse disposal to be operated jointly with Sligo County Council. Application for a foreshore lease in respect of the additional land has been made to the Department of Transport and I understand that a decision is expected to be issued shortly. It is a matter for the local authority to take whatever measures are necessary to ensure that waste disposal sites are properly maintained.
