Mr. Daly asked the Minister for Education the number of young persons engaged in the temporary youth employment schemes for 1979, 1980 and 1981; the total expenditure on the schemes for each year in respect of payments (a) to young people (b) to supervisors and (c) for materials and other expenditure.

The final figures for 1981 are obviously not yet available. The following schedule gives the details of expenditure on the Temporary Youth Employment Scheme for the years 1979 and 1980:—

The final figures for 1981 are not yet available but a total of £800,000 has been allocated and fully committed. There was no provision for material—craft grant prior to 1980.
