Mr. Cogan asked the Minister for the Environment whether he intends revising the boundaries of the local election areas within Cork city and county council prior to the next local elections [1508] which are due in 1984 if the electoral areas appear to be out of line following the publication of the next census; and whether he will transfer his powers and duties to the Dáil Electoral Boundaries Commission.

Minister for the Environment (Mr. R. Burke): I have no proposals at present for revising the local electoral areas within Cork city and Cork County. Whether it may be desirable to review the situation following publication of the census results and, if so, in what manner, is a matter which would fall to be considered in the light of circumstances then obtaining.
