473. Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in publishing the figures of the 1980 annual vehicle census, which should have been available before Christmas.

Minister for the Environment (Mr. R. Burke): There has been no undue delay in compiling the 1980 vehicle census, which has now been completed for issue. The 1979 census issued in March 1979. It is hoped that a more efficient up-dating of computer records will enable the issue of the census to be expedited annually in future.
