Mr. Keating asked the Minister for the Environment if he will institute discussions with representatives of the motor manufacturing groups to ensure a greater awareness of the need for security on cars and if he will consider making it mandatory that security devices be incorporated in all new and second-hand vehicles. Mr. Connolly Mr. Connolly Mr. Connolly: Regulations made under the Road Traffic Acts require that vehicles be fitted with door, ignition or immobility locks or devices. Regulations made under the European Communities Act, 1972, require vehicle manufacturers to fit cars with certain security devices.
