Written Answers. - Cork Postal Sorting Offices.

196. Mr. P. Barry and Mr. L. Burke asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it is intended to open the sorting offices at Vicars Road, Cork, and Ballinlough, Cork, and the reason for the delay to date in opening these premises.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Reynolds): The opening of the new sorting offices in Cork involves a major reorganisation of collection and delivery services throughout the city. The delay in opening the offices has arisen because proposals already made for reorganisation were not acceptable to the staff. Revised proposals are at present being prepared in consultation with the local staff representatives and I hope the new offices will be brought into operation without much further delay.
