468. Mr. B. Desmond asked the Minister for Finance the estimated yield to the Exchequer of an increase of 10 per cent in general VAT rates in a full calendar year.

Minister for Finance (Mr. O'Kennedy): The additional yield to the Exchequer in a full year (1979 figures) is estimated to be as follows:——

By increasing the existing zero per cent rate to 10 per cent, £146.0 million; by increasing the existing 10 per cent rate to 20 per cent, £283.5 million; by increasing the existing 20 per cent rate to 30 per cent, £64.0 million.
