493. Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for Justice the number of inquiries regarding the purchase of ground rent which the Land Registry has received since the coming into force of the Landlord and Tenant Act, 1978.

[390] Minister for Justice (Mr. G. Collins): The special procedure for the purchase of the fee simple of dwellinghouses provided by the Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) (No.2) Act, 1978, came into operation on 1 August 1978. The number of inquiries, including inquiries on behalf of groups, received by the Land Registry from that date until 13 October last was in excess of 5,000 representing about 6,000 individual houseowners.
