Dáil Éireann - Volume 308 - 17 October, 1978 Written Answers. - Telephone Service. Mr. Meaney Mr. Meaney 484. Mr. Meaney asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will investigate why a person (details supplied) in County Cork, who applied for a telephone over three years ago has not been facilitated; and when a telephone is likely to be provided. Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Faulkner) Padraig Faulkner Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Faulkner): The application could not be dealt with because of the volume of engineering works on hands in the area and because of a shortage of equipment in the local exchange. The telephone will be provided when installation of a new exchange at Coachford, work on which has been in progress for some time, is completed early next year. Mr. Tully Mr. Tully 485. Mr. Tully asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has received complaints about the phone service in Kells area, County Meath; and if he has any proposals to improve the service pending the completion of an automatic exchange. Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Faulkner) Padraig Faulkner Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Faulkner): The answer to the first part of the question is “Yes”. Additional switchboards will be installed in the exchange in the first quarter of next year and the exchange will also be relieved shortly of handling certain traffic from one of its major dependent exchanges. Both of these measures should improve substantially the service in the Kells area. Mr. Quinn Mr. Quinn 486.
