Minister for the Environment (Mr. Barrett) Minister for the Environment (Mr. Barrett)
Minister for the Environment (Mr. Barrett): I have no such proposals. I have power under the Road Traffic Act, 1961, to make regulations in regard to the conduct of passengers in public service vehicles used on roads: the regulations made enable the operator of a large public service vehicle to prohibit, by notice, smoking in any part of the vehicle. Otherwise I have no power to prohibit smoking. The powers under the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Act, 1962, to make regulations controlling atmospheric pollution relate to air pollution resulting from the emission from premises of smoke and other pollutants.
