Mr. Horgan asked the Minister for Education if he will consider bringing into public ownership or trustee-ship all schools in receipt of public money in order to ensure the continuity [856] and rational organisation of education in Ireland. Mr. Wilson Mr. Wilson Mr. Wilson: I do not consider such a proposal to be necessary or desirable. Mr. Horgan Mr. Horgan Mr. Horgan: Does the Minister not agree that there is a precedent for this in the case of all community schools whose trustees are appointed by the Minister for Education? Would he not consider doing something like this in respect of all schools which are in receipt of public money? Mr. Wilson Mr. Wilson Mr. Wilson: I am pleased with the community school and comprehensive school development but the answer to Question No. 10 remains the same: I do not consider the proposal mentioned in the Deputy's question necessary or desirable. Mr. Horgan Mr. Horgan Mr. Horgan: Is the Minister satisfied with the situation in which comparatively large sums of public money can be invested in educational institutions without any control by the Minister over whether these institutions remain open or closed other than a requirement to repay a loan? An Ceann Comhairle Joseph Brennan An Ceann Comhairle: That is a separate question. Mr. Wilson Mr. Wilson Mr. Wilson: That is a separate question which I answered last week. Some of the actual statistics I gave last week were amazing to me. Mr. Horgan Mr. Horgan Mr. Horgan: Is the Minister satisfied with that situation? Mr. Wilson Mr. Wilson Mr. Wilson: The Minister is satisfied only with one situation and that is adequate, full provision for secondary places in the north city area, the south city area and the country in general. Mr. Horgan Mr. Horgan Mr. Horgan: Is the Minister aware that a great many other people are not too satisfied? Mr. Wilson Mr. Wilson Mr. Wilson: There are people who will never be satisfied.
