Dáil Éireann - Volume 293 - 09 November, 1976 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Gardaí. Mr. Davern Mr. Davern 2. Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that there is no resident garda in Kilsheelin, Clonmel, County Tipperary; and if he will ensure that this situation is rectified. Mr. Cooney Mr. Cooney Mr. Cooney: Since 8th August, when the garda then in charge of Kilsheelin station retired, the station has been manned each day by a garda from Clonmel. Arrangements have now been completed for the formal allocation of a member to the station in a few weeks' time. Mr. G. Collins Mr. G. Collins Mr. G. Collins: Could the Minister say what he means by saying that the station is manned by a garda from Clonmel? How many hours a day is the station opened? Mr. Cooney Mr. Cooney Mr. Cooney: The station is opened from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Mr. Davern Mr. Davern 3. Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the extent of the increase in crime in Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary; and if, in view of this, he will provide extra gardaí for the area. Mr. Cooney Mr. Cooney 1193 [1193] Mr. Cooney: The Commissioner informs me that, while there has been an increase in the incidence of crime in the Carrick-on-Suir area, he considers that the present strength and patrolling arrangements there are reasonable having regard to other demands on Garda resources. Mr. O'Kennedy Mr. O'Kennedy Mr. O'Kennedy: Did the Commissioner indicate that this increase in the pattern of crime in that area is repeated on a national basis in other towns of comparable size throughout the country? An Ceann Comhairle Seán Treacy An Ceann Comhairle: I am afraid we cannot have an extension of this question. It would not be in order. Mr. O'Kennedy Mr. O'Kennedy Mr. O'Kennedy: Is that pattern exceptional in this area or not? Mr. Cooney Mr. Cooney Mr. Cooney: I have not got information on other comparable towns but the information available to me with regard to Carrick-on-Suir is that there was a large number of disorderly incidents during the St. Patrick's weekend and this led to an increase in the crime statistics for Carrick-on-Suir. Hopefully that was a single occurrence. Dáil Éireann 293 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. County Tipperary Gardaí. Questions 19761109
