Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - TV Licence Scheme.

12. Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Health, if he has received a petition with 20,000 signatures attached to it requesting the extension of the free television licence scheme to disabled persons who are in receipt of a disabled person's allowance; and, if so, whether he proposes to accede to this request.

Mr. Corish: I have received the petition referred to by the Deputy. I regret that I am not in a position to accede to the request.

Mr. Callanan: I would ask the Minister to give serious consideration to this suggestion because television is an important amenity to those who are disabled.

Mr. Corish: My sentiments do not differ from those of the Deputy but in present circumstances I could not accede to the request.
