Collins asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the names and numbers of estates in County Limerick dealt with by the Land Commission during the past ten years (b) the total acreage in each estate (c) the length of time each estate was in the hands of the Land Commission (d) the total income from lettings in each of the estates and (e) the average price per acre paid for the lettings each year.

Minister for Lands (Mr. T.J. Fitzpatrick, Cavan): The information requested is not readily available and its extraction at this stage would be a formidable task involving the examination of a large number of individual files and documents in several branches of the Land Commission. The Deputy will appreciate that, in the circumstances, to compile the detailed information sought would call for a disproportionate expenditure of time and labour. It may suffice for his purpose to know that in the past 10 years 6,550 acres, approximately, comprised in 93 properties were acquired or purchased by the Land Commission in County Limerick and a further 2,800 acres, approximately, made up of numerous small holdings were taken over by way of exchange. In the same period about 8,500 acres were allotted to some 590 allottees. Income from revenue lettings in County Limerick in 1975 was of the order of £35,000 while outgoings— interest on land bonds, rates, caretakers and so on—were in or about the same figure.
