Dáil Éireann - Volume 287 - 27 January, 1976 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Surface Water Quality. Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass 24. Mr. Lemass asked the Minister for Local Government if all public water supplies in Ireland comply with the terms of the EEC Council's directive of the 16th June 1975 concerning the quality of surface water intended ultimately for use as drinking water. Mr. Tully Mr. Tully Mr. Tully: All sanitary authorities have been requested to have analyses made of surface waters used for the abstraction of drinking water for supply by public distribution networks. Initially, the survey is being confined to sources used for schemes serving populations of 3,000 or more. When the results are available, I expect that they will demonstrate that the quality of the water in every case complies with the requirements specified in the directive in question.
