298. Mr. Lemass asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when the Government intends to ratify the EEC directive on prepacked liquids.

Minister for Industry and Commerce (Mr. Keating): I presume the Deputy is referring to Council Directive 75/ 106 relating to the making up by volume of certain prepacked liquids. This directive was issued on 19th December, 1974. While Article 7 of the directive provides a derogation allowing deferment of implementation of the directive until the 31st December, 1979, consideration is being given, in consultation with the various interests concerned, to whether implementation earlier than December, 1979, would be possible or desirable.
