344. Mr. B. Desmond asked the Taoiseach if he will furnish particulars of farm employment (full-time employees, part-time employees) and farm tractors, as ascertained in the full enumeration of June 1970, for each rural district and sub-totals for each country.
The Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave
The Taoiseach: The statement following shows for each rural district and county (a) the number of agricultural holdings and (b) the number of tractors as revealed in the June, 1970 full enumeration. Corresponding information on the numbers of males engaged in farm work (members of family, permanent employees and temporary employees) was published in the December, 1971 issue of the Irish Statistical Bulletin, pages 364-366.

Information on the numbers of holdings reporting employees and [36] holdings reporting tractors is not compiled at rural district level. An analysis of a sample of the 1970 returns is being undertaken, however, and, when completed, estimates of the numbers of holdings reporting male employees and of the numbers of holdings reporting tractors will be available for each county and province.
